Abstract

The process of land use and occupation is an important object of study that helps to understand the human dynamics and its relationship with the environment, the knowledge of this dynamic allows us to develop more effective actions to improve the quality of life of the inhabitants. A tool to carry out this monitoring is the use of remote sensing techniques and Geographic Information Systems (GIS). Thus, the objective of this work is to evaluate changes in land use and occupation in the municipality of Salvaterra over a period of 11 years, using remote sensing and geoprocessing techniques. The land use and occupation data were obtained through the platform of the Annual Land Cover and Land Use Mapping Project in Brazil (MapBiomas). The files were processed in the Qgis 3.8.3 Zanzibar software and the statistical data were organized in an electronic spreadsheet using the Excel 2007 program. Through the survey, it was possible to see that urban expansion occurs in the city at various points that advance on different uses and vegetations. In addition, it is observed that the agricultural activity, in terms of quantity of area, decreased during the study period. It is hoped that this work can be the starting point and collaborate with discussions on the theme in the city, as well as in the region.
