Monitoramento de queimadas no município de Novo Progresso – PA, nos períodos de 2019 e 2020 com o uso do Mapbiomas.

Abstract

Novo Progresso is a municipality that is 1,639 km away from Belém-Pa, where it is located in the middle of the Amazon forest, on the edge of the BR 163. The municipality presents a diverse variability in its economic activities, which influence the way of use and occupation of soil, such as Livestock, Agriculture, Mineral Extractivism, Vegetal Extractivism and Commercial Establishments. Novo Progresso ranks ninth in Pará's cattle herd and also has a large soybean-growing area. The objective of the work is to monitor the fires in the municipality of Novo Progresso in the years 2019 and 2020, using MapBiomas. Then, compare the rates of fires in the region and identify the main causes of fires in the municipality. Its soil is characterized by a great heterogeneity and can be considered regular for both agriculture and pastures, the data referring to the classification of land use and cover and fire cover were obtained through the MapBiomas platform. MapBiomas (2020) is a land use and occupation classification project for Brazilian biomes that began in 2015, with the objective of classifying the use and occupation of the Amazon by year using machine learning techniques. Based on the rates of fire outbreaks in the municipality of Novo Progresso, it was possible to observe a visible decrease in the year 2020 compared to 2019. In 2019 it had a great impact on the increase in fires that may have been caused by the growth of the cattle herd in the region.
